Powered by the Sun: How Do We Use Solar Energy to Make Our Freeze-Dried Fruit ?

Every bag of Fresca freeze-dried fruit starts the same way — with fresh fruit, our hands, and the sun.

We're based on the edge of the beautiful Kaipara Harbour, and from the moment the sun rises over the water each morning, our solar system kicks in and starts powering our freeze dryers. From Sunrise to After Dark

Our solar panels sit on the roof of our home here on the Kaipara. As soon as the sun hits them in the morning, they start generating power — and that power goes straight to work running our freeze dryers. During the day, any surplus goes back to the grid. After dark, we switch to our Powerwall battery system, which stores the energy generated during the day so we can keep running well into the evening.

The result? Our freeze dryers run almost entirely on clean, renewable solar energy — from sunrise to well after dark.

Why This Matters to Us

Freeze drying is an energy-intensive process. The machines run for long cycles to slowly remove moisture from the fruit at low temperatures. We made the decision early on to invest in solar because we wanted to build a business we could feel genuinely proud of — one that's good for the environment as well as good for you.

No additives in our fruit. No unnecessary energy use in our process. Just real fruit, hand-crafted by us, powered by the sun.
