Powered by the Sun: How We Kept Freeze Drying Through a Total Power Outage

There's something pretty special happening in our production space today.

The power went out across the area this morning — but inside our facility, you'd never know it. All three of our freeze dryers are humming along, loaded with fresh apple and pineapple, running completely off-grid on solar power and battery storage.

When the outage hit, our system switched over seamlessly. The battery is holding strong with over 11 hours of charge remaining, and the power company expects the grid to be back by 4pm — well before we'd ever need to worry.

What does that mean for our fruit?

Absolutely nothing changes. The freeze drying process is uninterrupted, which means the apple and pineapple going through today will come out with exactly the same flavour, texture, and nutritional integrity as every other batch we've ever made. No shortcuts. No compromise.

It's a good reminder of why we invested in renewable energy for our production. We didn't do it just to tell a good story — we did it because it's the right way to run a food business. But we'd be lying if we said we weren't a little proud today. ☀️
