Moving the sheep yards, a team effort on the farm

|FrescaFreezeDry NZ

There’s been a big project underway on the farm: moving our old sheep yards to the pine tree paddock at the top of the farm, where they’re now needed.

Our German WWOOFers spent two days dismantling the old yards and moving everything up to the new site, ready to be reassembled. Pulling out the posts was a big job, but the Massey Ferguson tractor did a great job of hauling them out and getting them ready for transport.

Over the past few days, the boys laid out the posts ready for a local contractor to drive them into the ground with his post rammer. Colin also showed them how to install the strainer posts. Once they’d learned the ropes, they tackled the remaining four themselves.

Our German helpers have now headed off on the next part of their travels, and we’re very grateful for all their hard work. The next group of WWOOFers will pick up where they left off, helping put in the sheep-yard races and bring the new yards together.

It’s a big job, but it’s lovely to see it taking shape, with a bit of teamwork, some new skills and a trusty tractor!
